The global pandemic caused severe damage to the Glastonbury Film Festival.
According to financial documents retrieved by Billboard, last year’s annual music event lost over $4 million. It canceled in-person festivities for the second consecutive summer.
Glastonbury organisers cancelled the 2020 festival. The event was supposed to feature Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar & Paul McCartney. This was due to concerns about the coronavirus. The festival’s turnover decreased from $61M to $1.3M, a record decrease for the event over the past decades.
After lockdowns led to the 2021 cancellation, organisers launched Glastonbury Live from Worthy Farm, a one-day livestream event. This featured performances by Coldplay as well as JorjaSmith and Honey Dijon. Glastonbury received a $1.2million grant through the Culture Recovery Fund, months before the online show.
Michael and Emily Eavis posted, “We’re thankful to have been offered an Award from the Culture Recovery Fund,” “After the loss of millions due to the cancellations our last two Festivals canceled, this grant will make an important difference in helping us to secure our future.”
Worthy Farm will be hosting 2022 Glastonbury, which is scheduled to take place from June 22-26. The in-person Glastonbury is now sold out. 2020 tickets have been transferred over to the 2022 festival. Glastonbury did not announce the full lineup. However, Billie Eilish has been confirmed to headline Pyramid’s stage on Friday.
