A new poll conducted by Global Info Analytics has tipped the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako, to win the upcoming Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The survey, carried out between August 27 and 28 with 2,050 voters sampled across the constituency, places Bediako ahead of his closest challenger, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to the poll, Bediako secured 53% support, while Asumadu polled 47%, giving the NDC candidate a narrow but decisive advantage ahead of the vote.

The by-election, triggered by the death of the late NPP Member of Parliament Ernest Kumi on July 7, has drawn national attention due to Akwatia’s status as a swing constituency. Over the past two decades, the seat has alternated between the NDC and NPP, making the outcome a significant pointer to the balance of political strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Global Info Analytics noted that the results reflect not only traditional party loyalty but also voter concerns about unemployment, economic hardship, and inadequate access to social amenities issues that have shaped campaign messaging in the constituency. The pollsters, however, cautioned that undecided voters remain a key factor, as their choices could either solidify Bediako’s lead or help Asumadu close the gap.

The by-election is expected to be tightly contested and closely monitored across the country. Security agencies have pledged heightened deployment to guarantee a peaceful process, following recent incidents of electoral violence in other parts of the country.
