A member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. (Med) Nene Limon Abayateye, has submitted a petition seeking the removal of Dr. Frank Serebour as president.

The petition accuses Dr. Serebour of making decisions unilaterally, without consulting the National Executive Council or General Assembly.
The concern centers on Dr. Serebour’s remarks regarding Organized Labour’s strike over the harmful health and environmental effects of illegal mining.
The petitioner claims that these actions violated Article 16 of the GMA constitution and tarnished the association’s reputation, making it seem inconsistent in the eyes of the public, especially given its past stance on illegal mining.
On Tuesday, the GMA issued a statement urging its members to “continue providing full services without interruption,” despite the impending nationwide strike by Organised Labour, scheduled to start on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Dr. Serebour clarified that the GMA has not outlined any plans for industrial action, and members are expected to continue working as usual.
