The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned its staff against participating in the nationwide strike organized by the Labour Union.

The strike is scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 10, 2024, in response to the government’s failure to tackle the illegal mining (galamsey) issue.

GMet emphasized that any employee who decides to strike will do so at their own risk. During an event at the agency in Accra on Wednesday, Isaac Amoo, the Board Chairman of GMet, underscored that the agency is an essential service organization and does not authorize its workers to join the strike.

“GMet is part of the essential services of this country. So, on behalf of the board and leadership of this agency, I want to announce that GMet does not approve any of its workers to join the nationwide strike.

Any worker who disregards this directive should consider themselves as having terminated their appointment,” he stated.

In a related development, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has also announced that it will not participate in the strike.

The association has instructed all nurses and midwives to remain at their posts and continue providing safe and quality health services to Ghanaians.
