Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed on Monday, September 16, over the commissioning of the District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP) equipment in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.

According to Citi News, tensions escalated when NDC supporters questioned why the NPP had posted pictures of their parliamentary candidate, Bismark Basie Nkum, on the equipment, nearly resulting in physical altercations.

Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Bismark Basie Nkum, accused the Member of Parliament for the area, Richard Gyan Mensah, of brandishing a pistol and threatening the NPP leadership.

In a viral video, Nkum is heard stating, “The Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako and Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Councils were seated along with other traditional authorities, and we have an MP who acted like a land guard, pulling out a gun in front of the cameras.”

Nkum further stated that the district security council would address the matter and seek prosecution of the MP. The project commissioning was disrupted following the confrontation.
