The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, recently inspected four sites in Ridge, a suburb of Nhyieaso, where 185 housing units for government workers are nearing completion.

The ultramodern apartments, comprising three, four, and five bedrooms, are intended to accommodate public servants in the region and are situated on government lands in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Speaking to OTEC News, Simon Osei-Mensah emphasized the government’s dedication to providing affordable and quality housing for public sector employees, aimed at reducing the country’s housing deficit.

He clarified that the apartments will be rented to occupants at affordable prices, with tenancy agreements signed between the government and state agencies, rather than individual occupants.

The Ashanti Regional Lands Officer, Peter Osei-Wusu, explained the funding arrangement for the project, revealing that the government partnered with private construction firms to build the houses in exchange for parcels of land.

He ensured that the government lands were evaluated by the Ghana Institute of Surveyors and that all contracts went through the Public Procurement Authority to guarantee value for money.

This agreement has enabled the smooth execution of the project without requiring government funding. The housing units, now 90% complete, demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of public sector workers in the Ashanti Region.
