In response to escalating violence in Bawku, which has resulted in at least eight deaths and heightened public safety concerns, the government has imposed a strict curfew from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily.

The curfew, announced by the Ministry of Interior on October 28, 2024, followed an emergency National Security meeting led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The recent unrest began with the return of Mr. Seidu Abagre to Bawku on October 24, who was controversially enskinned as Bawku Naba in February 2023.
Despite lacking legal recognition, his presence has intensified disputes between factions, leading to violent clashes.
Witnesses report that at least eight people have been killed in recent days, as security agencies work to contain the violence and prevent further escalation.
The Interior Ministry noted that Mr. Abagre’s presence posed a significant threat to the peace and stability of Bawku and nearby areas.
Consequently, the curfew was enacted under the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491), and security forces have been directed to enforce it strictly.
This recent outbreak of violence comes after months of ongoing tensions and conflicts over chieftaincy disputes in the region.
Police have announced an increased security presence in Bawku, with additional measures in place to prevent further casualties.
The government has urged residents to observe curfew hours, comply with law enforcement, and cooperate fully with security personnel.
Deputy Minister for Interior, Hon. Naana Eyiah, who signed the statement on behalf of the Minister, warned that violators will face severe legal consequences.
