Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has denied claims that the government has neglected basic education due to the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

During his presentation of the State of Education in Ghana on Tuesday, July 30, Dr. Adutwum highlighted ongoing efforts and progress in improving infrastructure across basic schools nationwide.
He stressed that, despite criticisms, the government remains dedicated to enhancing educational facilities at the basic level.
“We want to make sure that change comes and comes rapidly. We have to move the children from the 16th century. We have Ahafoman, look at how their building was and how it is now. You look at other schools, this was a demonstration, now look at what the school is like…Now Aza Basic School has a WC and other facilities; there are a number of places.
“This is a school called Nagode in a town called Nagode near Nyinahini. When school begins in September this will be their school. All across the country, before and after Ntefriwaso that was the school before, now see.
“Atobiase, this was the classroom block, now you see. So for all those who talk about the government having abandoned basic schools, it is not true. We have rather taken giant steps,” he stated.
