Government is set to introduce the SME Growth and Opportunity Programme to offer coordinated support for SME growth

The government, through the Ministries of Finance and Trade and Industry, along with partnering agencies, will launch the ‘SME Growth and Opportunity’ Programme at a summit on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

This SME Programme focuses on ensuring coordinated efforts among partnering agencies to provide targeted financial and technical support to SMEs with high growth potential.

The summit, themed “Breaking Barriers to SME Growth,” will gather approximately 150 selected participants from the private sector, academia, business regulatory and compliance institutions, media, industry, multilateral and bilateral partners, and financial service providers.

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, stated that the summit aims to enhance partnerships, mobilize diverse financial resources for SME growth and expansion, and provide a platform for public and private sector actors to advocate for inclusive policies and strategies necessary to foster SME growth in Ghana.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will launch the SME Growth and Opportunity Programme at the summit. Other key speakers will include Minister for Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister for Trade and Industry Hon. K.T. Hammond, Governor of the Central Bank of Ghana Dr. Ernest Addison, and President of the African Development Bank Group Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.

The event will bring together SMEs, financial service providers, business and regulatory compliance institutions, and will also feature an exhibition of SME products.

The partnering agencies include the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), the Ghana EXIM Bank, the Development Bank Ghana (DBG), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
