The government has announced its readiness to begin enrolling prospective homeowners into affordable housing units under the National Homeownership Fund (NHF).
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to expand access to affordable housing and reduce the country’s housing shortfall, particularly among working-class citizens struggling to secure decent accommodation.
The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, made this known after inspecting ongoing housing projects at Shai Hills and Tema Community 22 on Monday, March 2, 2026.
He said the housing units, which are nearing completion, are primarily targeted at low- and middle-income earners as part of efforts to address Ghana’s housing deficit.
“The houses are almost 95 and 98 per cent completed. Meaning we can start signing agreements with people to win the place, either rent-to-own or the NHF will help some of them to put them on mortgage schemes that they have established with the banks,” he stated.
According to the Minister, the National Homeownership Fund has partnered with financial institutions to provide flexible mortgage arrangements to make homeownership more accessible to ordinary Ghanaians.
