The Government Transition Team has clarified that since the December 7 General Election, no financial clearance has been issued to any ministry, department, or agency (MDA) for new payments or recruitment.

Fatimatu Abubakar, Spokesperson for the Transition Team and Minister of Information, emphasized that concerns about “last-minute payments and recruitment” raised by the incoming administration were unfounded. She explained that processes for payments and recruitment had been initiated months prior to the elections.

She further highlighted the government’s goodwill towards ensuring a smooth power transfer and called for professionalism from both sides of the Transition Team.

She noted, for instance, that the recruitment of nurses and allied health personnel had been initiated well before the polls, and tax waivers for One-District, One-Factory projects had already been presented to Parliament.

“The recruitment of security personnel started at the beginning of the year, while the processes for purchasing 65-feet naval ships began three years ago,” she added.

Madam Abubakar said the Government had complied with the provisions of the Transition Act while the Co-chairs of the Joint Team had conducted the business of the transition process fairly.

She called on Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson for the incoming administration, to be measured in his public pronouncements in order not to raise “unnecessary tensions”.
