GPL: Asante Kotoko in talks with members over salary cut

Asante Kotoko Deputy Accra Representative, Nana Kwame Dankwah, has revealed the club is in talks with players and coaching staff over taking wage cuts as they look to cut costs in response to the coronavirus crisis.

According to him, the club has asked head coach Maxwell Konadu to speak with the players about reducing their salaries.

The outbreak of the virus has taken a toll the club’s finances with their major source of income which is gate proceeds blocked due to the suspension of football competitions.

“As we speak, because of the [Covid-19] situation, the team is on break. The technical team and the medical team gave a programme to the players. I believe they are following it.

“Apart from that, there is this issue of pay cuts. Management has spoken with the Head Coach [Maxwell Konadu]. He is to discuss it with the playing body and revert to us. At the moment, that is what we are confronted with.

“We are not imposing it on the players. We need to discuss it with them so that there will be [amicable] agreement. We are waiting to hear from them,” Nana Kwame told Joy FM.

The Ghana Premier League which is the only competition remain active in this season was suspended in March, with Kotoko occupying fourth position.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered elimination in MTN FA Cup at round 64 stage.
