The Cyber Security Authority of Ghana has established a Special Cybersecurity Taskforce to curb the use of social media for inciting conflict in the Bawku area.

The taskforce is tasked with receiving reports, investigating cases, and prosecuting individuals who exploit digital platforms to promote violence in the region.

In a statement released on January 22, the Authority encouraged citizens to report incitement-related content, including audio recordings, photos, and suspicious social media accounts. Reports can be submitted via WhatsApp at 050 160 3111 for swift action.

The taskforce will also collaborate with foreign Ambassadors and High Commissioners to track and address the activities of instigators operating from outside Ghana.

Efforts will be made to report such individuals and pursue their extradition, in line with Ghana’s adherence to international law and anti-terrorism conventions, particularly concerning genocide and violence incitement.

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Cyber Security Authority to work closely with National Security to intensify efforts to curb the misuse of social media in provoking armed conflict and violence in Bawku (Upper East Region) and Walewale (North East Region).

This directive underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring security in the affected areas.
