The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has warned that contracts with non-performing contractors under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP) will be terminated.

He highlighted that these contractors have failed to deliver on their obligations despite receiving payments from the ministry for crucial infrastructure projects in 35 municipalities.
After a tour of the Western and Central Regions, Mr. Korsah reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to ending contracts with contractors who are not fulfilling their responsibilities.
He noted that some contractors intentionally delay projects to obtain additional funds from the government and stressed that such practices will not be tolerated.
“Some have been good, some have not been good. Where it’s not been good, we have put in place measures to ensure that nobody frustrates the government and the people who must be enjoying these projects.
We have observed that some contractors who have some agreement with the ministry to work, having been paid what they need under the agreement, have failed to deliver as required.
“They collect the money and the work is not being done. Where you expect a higher percentage of the work to have been done, there’s nothing there.
And what we have been saying is that we can no longer continue to tolerate that,” he stated.
The minister continued: “The ministry is building records of all those people and we intend to apply the law to make sure that they don’t even come near our procurement processes next time, let alone to have any jobs with us. And again, within the same space, we’ve had the cause to terminate some arrangements because they failed to deliver.”
