The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has shut down several hospitality establishments in Kasoa and its surrounding areas for operating without the required licences and failing to meet regulatory standards.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Monday, August 18, 2025, targeted facilities in Central Kasoa and Ofaakor within the Awutu Senya East Municipality, as well as Kakraba and Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District. The affected guest houses, hostels, and restaurants were found to be in breach of the Registration and Licensing of Food, Beverage, and Entertainment Enterprises Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2238).

According to the GTA, some of the businesses not only lacked valid licences but also failed to meet basic operational and safety requirements, raising concerns over service quality.

Deputy Director of the GTA’s Accra West Regional Directorate, Shine Dela Gwornu, who led the exercise, explained that it formed part of a broader nationwide clampdown on illegal hospitality operations.

“This guest house has been operating without the required GTA licence and registration. By law, before you run a restaurant, travel and tour company, guest house, or hostel, you must have a valid GTA licence. As part of the national agenda, we are shutting down all such illegally operating facilities,” Mr. Gwornu told Citi News.

The authority stressed that the closed facilities will only be allowed to reopen once their operators regularise their documentation and meet the required standards. It further warned that any attempt to resume operations without clearance from the GTA would amount to a criminal offence punishable under Ghanaian law.
