The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced plans to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to improve the road networks leading to key tourist destinations across the country.

This initiative comes in response to growing concerns from both local and international tourists about the poor condition of roads to these sites, especially during the rainy season.

Tourists visiting Ghana have frequently expressed frustration over the deteriorating roads leading to popular attractions, which become particularly difficult to navigate when heavy rains worsen the situation.

During a recent engagement with journalists, Akwasi Agyeman, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, acknowledged these issues and assured the public that efforts are being made to address them.

He emphasized the importance of improving tourism-related infrastructure, including better road access to the country’s many attractions.

Mr. Agyeman stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the GTA and other government agencies, especially the Ministry of Roads and Highways, to effectively tackle these challenges.

He mentioned that the GTA is working with the Ministry to ensure that at least the “last mile” of roads leading to popular tourist destinations are significantly improved.

“We still have a lot of work to do, especially engagements with other agencies on tourism infrastructure. The roads to some of the tourist sites especially when it comes to a period like this when it is a rainy season, we get a lot of complaints.

“People wanting to visit tourist sites and then the rains and then the road network, so we are working with the Ministry of Roads through our ministry to make sure that at least the last mile to some of the tourist sites is improved.”
