The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the management of Saint Vincent College of Education to reopen, following a resolution reached with Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama.

The closure of the institution had been previously ordered by the Ya-Naa due to disputes over the appointment of a new principal.

In a significant development today, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of GTEC, accompanied by Commission staff, visited the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, where a mutual agreement was made to allow the college to resume its operations.

Professor Abdulai confirmed that the college will be fully operational by Wednesday, January 22. “I want to assure the public and stakeholders in tertiary education that the issues have been resolved, and normalcy should return to the institution tomorrow,” he said.

In response to public concerns about the closure, Musah Yakubu, Public Relations Officer for the Ya-Naa, clarified that the decision to shut the school was not driven by any personal interest.

He explained that the closure was a temporary measure to restore calm and facilitate discussions. “His Majesty wanted to restore calm so he could engage with the Director-General of GTEC.

“The discussions have now been successfully concluded, and everything has been resolved. We are hopeful that Saint Vincent will resume its operations as planned.”
