Manchester City has re-signed Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona on an initial one-year deal, with the option for an additional 12 months.
The 33-year-old midfielder returns after a year in Spain, where he had an impressive debut season.

Gundogan previously enjoyed a successful stint at City, winning 14 titles and scoring 60 goals in 304 appearances.
Gundogan expressed his happiness about returning to City, stating that his seven years at the club were filled with satisfaction both on and off the pitch.

He also expressed deep respect for Pep Guardiola and excitement about donning the City shirt again.
His departure from Barcelona was driven by the club’s financial constraints and the necessity to register new signing Dani Olmo, which helps Barcelona adhere to La Liga’s spending limits.
Gundogan, who retired from international football after Euro 2024, leaves Barcelona with gratitude for his time there. He was Pep Guardiola’s first signing at City in 2016.
