Ghana Water Limited (GWL) officials in the Ashanti Region have ramped up efforts to fully restore water supply to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) following a severe shortage that disrupted operations.

While water has started flowing at the facility, GWL has assured that additional measures are being implemented to ensure a stable and adequate supply.

The shortage, which began 10 days ago due to a burst pipeline supplying parts of Kumasi, forced the hospital’s Doctors Association to suspend some surgical procedures. Critical units, including the Orthopedic and Emergency Directorates, have been heavily affected, raising serious concerns about patient care.

The Ghana Water Company Limited explained that although many areas in Kumasi remain affected, it is prioritizing supply to the hospital while working to resolve the issue.

“We’re on course to restoring full production to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. As of Thursday, March 27, they started receiving flow, as of 9 am on Friday, March 28, till 4 am when the pressure went down.

“We’re also using the tanker services from the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to also augment supply. We’re doing our best. We are also looking at our system, where we can shut valves and direct flow. We’re hoping we don’t have any power challenges.”

Water tankers have been deployed to supplement supply at the hospital. The hospital management assured of working to minimize the impact on healthcare delivery.
