Professor Ransford Gyampo of the University of Ghana has expressed approval of proposals to dissolve the board of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
According to him, the labor representatives on the SSNIT board have failed to adequately represent the interests of their constituents, particularly concerning the recent hotel sale.

“Moving forward, labor needs to reconsider the type of individuals appointed to these boards. They did not act responsively to the people they represent,” Gyampo remarked.
“I have heard calls that the Board of SSNIT should be dislosved. They have been abysmal in their quest to present the interest of labour,” he stated on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday July 13.
His remarks follow SSNIT’s decision to halt the sale of a 60% stake in the four hotels. This action came in response to multiple labor unions declaring their intention to initiate a nationwide strike.
The strike was prompted by the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) approving SSNIT’s proposal to proceed with selling these shares in the hotels.
