Actress and philanthropist Habiba Sinare, who was formerly married to Black Stars striker Majeed Waris, has opened up about the challenges in her marriage that ultimately led to their divorce.
In a recent interview, Habiba discussed the difficulties she faced, emphasizing that her marriage was far from the idealized life many envision when marrying an athlete.

She pointed out that while being married to a football player may seem glamorous, the reality is often quite challenging.
One of the key reasons for the end of their marriage, according to Habiba, was her ex-husband’s strong commitment to his family, which resulted in a lack of intimacy and attention in their relationship.
“When we’re out, he still calls and talks to them. I just didn’t understand why we couldn’t share something intimate together; he always had to involve his parents, while I didn’t get my family involved,” she told Mz Gee in a recent episode of ‘Just Us.’
Reflecting on her experience, Habiba noted that she kept her marital issues private and did not involve her family until much later, as she preferred to handle things on her own. “I’m naturally the type of person who likes to keep things to myself… even my mum didn’t know what I was going through until we had a sit-down,” she revealed.
Distressed by her circumstances, Habiba decided to leave her marriage, feeling deeply troubled as a wife.
“When I was leaving, he told me he wouldn’t choose me over his family.
That hurt me profoundly. That statement still resonates with me. When he said that, I realized, ‘Wow, I’m not family after all.’ When emotions run high, people say things that go too far; sometimes, they don’t mean it, but words carry weight. I’m someone who takes words very seriously,” she explained.
Habiba also shared her insights into the challenges of marrying a football player and advised women to prepare for the realities that come with such relationships.
“Marrying a soccer player is not easy. There’s hardly any time for each other; you either find ways to make yourself happy by traveling or return to Ghana to enjoy life,” she noted, stressing that this lifestyle requires significant independence and emotional resilience.
Waris and Habiba Sinare married in 2017 but separated just sixteen months later.
