A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Hamza Suhuyini, has cautioned against attempts to politicise the 24-Hour Economy policy initiative, stressing that the party will resist efforts to turn the country’s economic blueprint into a partisan battleground.

He acknowledged that while constructive criticism is welcome, the NDC remains committed to keeping the policy focused on national development rather than political point-scoring.

“I called on my brother, Miracle, not to colour it with the usual politicisation. If they have any legitimate concerns or even credible criticism that they think should be brought to our attention, it can be done. But we will resist any invitation to make the 24-hour economy a partisan football,” he said.

The 24-Hour Economy policy, officially launched on July 2, is a flagship initiative of the NDC designed to boost productivity, expand exports, and create jobs by promoting round-the-clock economic activity.

The plan is anchored on leveraging sectors like agriculture and manufacturing to drive growth and employment, particularly among the youth.

Mr. Suhuyini emphasised that the policy is not only inclusive but also structured to ensure meaningful collaboration with the private sector, adding that the NDC is particularly focused on youth empowerment within the agriculture sector as a pathway to job creation and economic transformation.

“We know we need to give the private sector the needed support to implement it effectively. And in doing so, we are also tailoring it in a way that feeds into our export drive.

“We are looking at ways of empowering youth into agriculture so we can increase production, especially with rice and maize and ensure that it contributes to our export basket. In the long run, this will create viable jobs for our people,” he said.
