Ghanaian second division side Steadfast FC is poised to receive a substantial financial boost following the permanent transfer of winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to Leicester City.

Leicester activated a €17 million purchase clause in Issahaku’s loan agreement, which was triggered after his significant contributions to their Championship title victory.

This transaction results in a €7.9 million windfall for Steadfast FC, a club owned by Ghanaian politician Haruna Iddrisu.

Issahaku, aged 20, initially joined Leicester on loan from Sporting CP, who had acquired him from Steadfast in 2022 for €1.2 million.

The purchase clause included in Leicester’s agreement stipulated that they would be obligated to buy Issahaku permanently upon reaching a specific number of appearances, which he successfully achieved during their promotion campaign.

Leicester’s purchase of Issahaku included a clause that mandated them to buy him permanently once he reached a specified number of appearances, a milestone he successfully met during the team’s promotion campaign.

With Sporting CP recouping their initial investment of €1.2 million, the remaining €15.8 million from Leicester’s purchase price is split between the two clubs, resulting in a substantial payout for the Ghanaian second-tier team, Steadfast FC.

Issahaku impressed during his loan spell at Leicester, contributing seven goals and 13 assists last season.

“I feel amazing,” Issahaku declared to Foxes Hub after signing his five-year contract.

“It’s good to be back and I’m just focused again for next season. The Premier League is a new challenge and I’m motivated to succeed alongside the team. I can’t wait to see my teammates again, they’re like family now.”

He is set for continued success as he reunites with his Leicester teammates and gears up for his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur on August 19th.
