Hearts of Oak are in mourning after the tragic death of a devoted fan, William Nii Laryea, during their Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup match against Heart of Lions on Sunday.
The fan collapsed during the game and, despite immediate medical attention, passed away.
The news overshadowed the team’s victory in the penalty shootout.
Hearts of Oak have extended their condolences to the bereaved family and pledged their support during this difficult time.
“His departure to eternity will not only affect his immediate family but also, we as a club since we would lose his unflinching support and the passion with which he followed the club,” part of the club’s statement read.
“We hope to liaise closely with his family to ensure that we will contribute positively towards a successful final funeral rite for William Nii Laryea.”
“Once again, and with a heavy heart, we express our condolences to his family and hope the Almighty God will continue to guide and protect them in these difficult times.”
