The Accra High Court has sentenced three pastors to five days in prison each for not following court orders.

Apostle Samuel Anang Sowah, Bishop Abraham Adjetey Adjei, and Bishop Daniel Buernor Tokoli, formerly from the Holy Apostolic Reformed Church (HARC), were punished for ignoring orders to stay away from church activities.

In addition to the prison terms, the court, led by Justice William Boampong, also fined each pastor GH¢1,000, to be paid to the church.

Previously, on October 27, 2023, the court had found the pastors guilty of contempt for holding services at church branches in Tema, Teshie, and Nungua despite a court order banning them from doing so.

Although they were warned and let go at that time, they continued holding services two days later.

Justice Boampong said that by disobeying the court’s orders, the pastors harmed the justice system. The court’s decision underscores the importance of following legal orders.

The HARC Trustees had sued the pastors for breaking church rules and acting independently.

They asked the court to confirm that the branches were under the church headquarters’ control and to stop the pastors from being involved with the church until they followed the headquarters’ directions.
