Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah has expressed his disappointment over Ghana’s failure to maintain even a single stadium suitable for hosting international matches.

Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah has voiced his disappointment following CAF’s decision to ban the Baba Yara Stadium from hosting Category 3 matches due to poor conditions. This directive has left Ghana scrambling to find an alternative venue, with the possibility of playing in another country now looming.

Appiah expressed his frustration on X, stating, “Playing a qualifier outside Ghana, except in a tournament, is a national embarrassment.

We must prioritize hosting our own games and protect our football pride.”

His remarks resonate with the frustration many Ghanaians feel after learning the national team may have to play their next match in a neighboring country.

The Baba Yara Stadium, which had been Ghana’s only approved venue for international matches, came under heavy scrutiny after the Black Stars’ home defeat to Angola, where attention shifted to the substandard condition of the pitch.

In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has directed the Ghana Football Association to request CAF to inspect the University of Ghana Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium as Ghana races to secure a venue for their upcoming AFCON qualifier against Sudan in October.
