A 27-year-old housekeeper, Elijah Nagbo, received a ten-year jail term with hard labor from Accra Circuit Court Six for trying to steal two cars from his employer.

Nagbo admitted guilt and explained his preparation for the crime, leading to his conviction and sentencing. Joel, his supposed partner, is currently evading arrest.

DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, noted that Mr. Awuah Amponsah, the complainant, is a building contractor residing in Tantra Hill. Nagbo, who resided with the complainant and his family, worked as a housekeeper.

Received a phone call on March 7, 2024, the complainant from an unknown person claimed that Nagbo had conspired with others to rob him of his Honda CR-V, Toyota Corolla, and KIA Cerato vehicles with registration numbers GW 4895-18, GR 8713-23, and GN 9609-13, and sell them in Tema.

The situation was reported to the police by the complainant, leading to Nagbo’s arrest for investigation. In his cautionary statement during the investigation, Nagbo confessed to the crime and implicated Joel as an accomplice.

Nagbo worked as a housekeeper for the complainant starting in November 2023. He had conversations with Joel, a friend from Jasikan in the Oti Region who now lives in Ashaiman. Together, they devised a plan to steal the complainant’s vehicles.

Nagbo, in February 2024, invited Joel to the residence of the complainant to execute their scheme. He photographed the vehicles and sent them to a buyer in Tema.

The plan involved abducting the complainant and his wife and confining them in their room due to their frailty and old age. DSP Nyamekye informed the court that Nagbo knew the location of the keys to the vehicles.
