Dr. Peter Partey Anti, Executive Secretary of the Institute for Education Studies (IFEST-Ghana), has indicated that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) should have been signed during the meeting on Wednesday, July 24, between Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG).

He noted that the MoU would have included specific commitments and timelines for addressing CETAG’s concerns, which prompted the strike.

In an interview on TV3’s Big Issue on Thursday, July 25, he stated, “I expected the meeting to produce an MoU.”

“The issues are about the condition of services and allowances to be paid. So there should be an MoU signed by relevant parties and certain timelines set so that CETAG can go back to the classroom,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has reported that the government has made significant progress in addressing the issues raised by CETAG, which led to their strike.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Wednesday, July 24, following a stakeholder engagement, the Minister stated, “We have made great progress and achieved significant strides.”

CETAG had withdrawn all services after the government decided to withhold their July salary. The decision was in response to the Minister of Education’s directive to Principals and the Controller and Accountant General to withhold the July 2024 salaries of teaching staff from the 46 public colleges of education due to the ongoing strike.
