Ghanaian journalist and author Manasseh Azure Awuni talked about his difficult experiences under the Akufo-Addo administration.

In an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Manasseh discussed his new book, “The President Ghana Never Got,” and described how the government’s actions deeply affected his mental health.
He explained that the death threats he received were so severe that he needed therapy and eventually had to escape to Germany for safety.
“I have gone through so much that sometimes we don’t say everything that we suffer as journalists. But many do not know that under this administration, it got so bad that my mental health was failing.
“So, I had to reach out to a therapist, one of the executives of the Ghana Medical Association recommended a therapist for me, and, I started the therapy.
We go through so much that you have these party people and sometimes government officials who would say that if anybody is talking about not being able to do their work it is not Manasseh.
“But they don’t know the price you pay to do what you do. Death threats and people know of South Africa but they didn’t know that at a point I had to go to Germany,” he disclosed.
He criticized the government’s closure of several radio stations, saying it was a major threat to press freedom.
In his new book, Manasseh mentioned that he felt safer criticizing former President John Dramani Mahama than he does under the current government.
