Veteran Ghanaian actress Maame Dokono has debunked rumors about dating the late former President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
Grace Omaboe, also known as Maame Dokono, addressed these speculations during a speech at the press launch for her upcoming memoir at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra on July 30, 2024.
The press conference, dubbed ‘By the Fireside,’ was held to mark her 80th birthday and 60-year acting career.
At the event, Maame Dokono refuted rumours about her being the girlfriend of the NDC founder.
“Some said they heard that I was the girlfriend of President Rawlings. Who is that person? Ah. I was never the girlfriend of President Rawlings,” she said in the video.
The veteran actress also recounted how she was first introduced to politics by the late Rawlings’ wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
Maame Dokono also narrated the difficulties she faced due to her intense involvement in politics.
The award-winning actress stated that she joined both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to switch sides in the event that one of them lost.
Explaining her choice, the mother of six said she did not want to suffer. However, she reiterated that she has decided to stay clear of politics due to the backlash she faced.
Meanwhile, the veteran actress announced that her much-anticipated memoir will be launched on September 7, 2024, to celebrate six decades in the showbiz industry.
