Ibrahim Sannie Daara, the former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), revealed he was emotionally affected after watching the highlights of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League match between Dreams FC and Accra Lions.

The match, officiated by referee Maxwell Hanson, has sparked widespread debate on social media, with Accra Lions accusing the referee of biased decisions.

Dreams FC won the game 1-0, but a viral video of the match has brought attention to several controversial calls, which Accra Lions believe contributed to their loss.

Sannie Daara shared his reaction in a social media post, expressing his deep frustration: “For the first time in 20 years, I shed tears at 1 am when I saw highlights of Dreams FC vs. Accra Lions. I know firsthand the millions of dollars Lions have invested in Ghana football, and seeing this undermined was too painful. I am human; I have a soul.”

In response, Accra Lions issued a statement criticizing the GFA for the poor organization of the league and called for improved oversight of refereeing standards.

Dreams FC, however, defended themselves, accusing Accra Lions of hypocrisy.

They pointed out that refereeing errors are a global phenomenon and urged Lions to direct their grievances through the appropriate channels.

The win lifted Dreams FC to 14th on the GPL table but Accra Lions are stuck in the relegation zone as they sit 17th with 13 points from 16 games.
