The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has announced a series of presidential debates and encounters, scheduled for October and November, featuring selected flagbearers.

These events aim to provide a platform for candidates to outline their policies and vision, promoting informed decision-making among citizens.
A Presidential Evening Encounters session in September will precede the debates, held in Kumasi and Accra.
The IEA emphasized that the exact details will be shared after consulting with candidates and their parties.
According to Justice Sophia Akuffo, IEA distinguished fellow, the debates will foster issue-based campaigns, peaceful elections, and informed citizenry.
Candidates will address anonymous questions from Ghanaians, highlighting policy weaknesses and demonstrating presidential qualities.
The vice-presidential debate, slated for Accra, acknowledges the critical role of the Vice-President as mandated by the Constitution.
Aspirants must showcase adequate presidential skills and competence.
The IEA outlined the debate format, featuring anonymous questions and a town hall-style Evening Encounter with stakeholder representatives.
A Presidential Debates Committee will establish ground rules, solicit questions, and ensure a neutral platform.
The IEA reaffirmed its commitment to impartiality, dispelling notions of bias towards any political party.
This initiative promotes healthy idea contestation, supporting Ghana’s democratic process.
