Former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he perceives as a failure to make significant progress in the country’s road sector, despite the publicized “Year of Roads” initiative.
During a town hall meeting in Nsawura, Western North region, Mr. Mahama accused the current administration of neglecting the routine maintenance of the nation’s roads, resulting in an increase in deteriorating road conditions with no substantial efforts for upkeep.
He pointed out that road contractors are facing delayed payments, leading to site abandonment and relocation. Despite the government’s three consecutive declarations of the “Year of Roads,” there is scant evidence of progress, with numerous roads nationwide in a deplorable state.
Mr. Mahama emphasized the adverse impact of deteriorating road conditions on vehicles and pledged that the next NDC government would address these issues with due consideration.
He disclosed that the Akufo-Addo-led government has left virtually every sector in the country in distress, necessitating the return of the NDC to power to rectify the situation. Mr. Mahama likened the development of a nation to a baton race, expressing his view that the baton handed over to Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia was dropped along the way. Consequently, he asserted that the NDC must come back, pick up the baton, and continue the race for the country’s development.
