John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the government for dismissing the controversial Agyapadie document.

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, during the Ghana Report Summit on “Dealing with Misinformation and Disinformation – Election 2024,” President Akufo-Addo described the document as a “fabrication” intended to “mislead and create distrust.”

“The recent fabrication, “Agyapadie,” falsely claims a grand scheme by my party to annex state assets.

This baseless document is a clear attempt to mislead and create distrust. We must remain vigilant and discerning, verifying information before accepting it as truth,” he said.

However, John Mahama believes that the President’s assertion is not true. The NDC’s flag bearer while addressing Ghanaians during his campaign tour on Saturday indicated that the document cannot be a fabricated one if its prediction is what is happening under the current government.

“Recently, there was an issue about a document called Agyapadie, they said it is fabricated but even if its fabricated, the implementation is not fabricated because everything that is written in that document has been implemented so if really somebody sat and fabricated that document then the person can really read the minds of people,” Mahama explained.

The former President urged that President Akufo-Addo’s government be held accountable for the “hardship, crisis, and state capture” that Ghanaians have endured.

He hinted that the next NDC government will hold President Akufo-Addo’s government accountable.

“He knows that when I come, I will hold he and his family and his government accountable for what they have done and so they want to push Bawumia to cover their tracks,” Mahama added.

The document, which outlines a strategy to position and maintain the Akyem people at influential levels across all sectors of Ghana’s economy, has recently gone viral in both traditional and social media.

Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has dismissed the document as complete fiction, accusing those behind it of trying for years to incite hatred against the Ofori Panin family and Okyeman. At a recent Akyem Abuakwa State Council meeting, he remarked, “We saw this during J.B. Danquah’s time and we are seeing it now.

In October 2016, just before the election, a similar document known as the ‘Akyem Project’ circulated, aimed at sowing discord between Okyeman and Asanteman to undermine Nana Akufo-Addo’s electoral prospects. Unfortunately for them, it was too late to impact the election.”

“This diabolic plan was revised in 2019. In the year 2020 when the Agyapa business became a political issue, the book suddenly metamorphosed into ‘Agyapadie’” Okyenhene noted in a State Council meeting at Kyebi”.
