The Ghanaian film industry’s stagnant growth can be attributed to the influx of newcomers lacking essential knowledge and education, according to Socrate Safo, chairman of the Ghana Classification Board.

In an interview with 3FM, Safo emphasized that passion alone is insufficient to succeed in the industry, highlighting the need for structured guidance and education.

He noted that the industry’s challenges stem from ignorance, with many entering the field without proper orientation.

Safo stressed the importance of industry players receiving comprehensive training and orientation to address the lingering challenges.

“The industry’s growth has been hindered by a lack of understanding, leading to numerous struggles.

Many entered the industry driven by passion, but without the necessary knowledge, resulting in avoidable challenges,” he explained.

Safo’s remarks underscore the need for a more structured approach to the industry, where newcomers can receive the necessary guidance and support to excel.

By acknowledging the industry’s shortcomings and working towards solutions, Safo hopes to see a revitalized Ghanaian film industry that reaches its full potential.
