The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-powered security delegation to the Savannah Region to assess the situation following recent violent communal clashes.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service said the team from the National Police Headquarters will engage chiefs, opinion leaders, and community representatives in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and surrounding areas to discuss measures aimed at restoring peace and stability.

Reinforcement teams, comprising personnel from the Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and other security stakeholders, have already been deployed to the affected communities. Authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with the security forces to ensure lasting peace.

The clashes, which erupted on Sunday morning in Gbiniyiri, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, were triggered by a dispute over land ownership. At least five people lost their lives, while six others sustained injuries, three of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

Local leaders have expressed concern over the escalation of the conflict and are urging swift intervention to prevent further violence.
