President-elect John Dramani Mahama has announced his intention to transition into full-time farming after retiring from politics, a move he described as a return to his roots.

Speaking during a visit to his Yapei and Busunu farms in the Savannah Region, Mahama expressed his passion for agriculture, highlighting how farming has always been a significant part of his life. He revealed that, had he not ventured into politics, he would have pursued farming as a full-time career.

“Farming is my life. I love it. If I hadn’t gone into politics, I would already be a full-time farmer. After this stint, I will dedicate myself fully to farming,” Mahama stated.

The former president also emphasized the importance of agriculture to Ghana’s economy, noting its potential to create jobs, ensure food security, and drive sustainable development.

He praised the resilience of Ghanaian farmers and called for more investment in the sector, particularly in rural areas.

During the visit, Mahama toured various sections of his farms, including crops, livestock, and aquaculture projects. He shared insights into his vision of modernizing agriculture by incorporating technology and innovative farming practices.

“Farming is not just about tradition; it’s about using new methods to increase yields and improve livelihoods. I want to contribute to that transformation,” he added.

Mahama also hinted at mentoring young farmers after his retirement, encouraging the youth to explore agriculture as a viable and rewarding career path.

“If you want to find me after retirement, you’ll have to visit me on the farm,” he said, inviting others to join him in supporting Ghana’s agricultural future.
