Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, has committed to prioritizing railway development if he is elected President of Ghana.

At a community event in Nyinahin, located in the Atwima Mponua constituency on Monday, Dr. Bawumia stressed that significant investment in the railway sector is essential for unlocking the full potential of the country’s bauxite mining industry.

He pointed out that an efficient rail infrastructure would not only facilitate the transportation of resources but also foster economic growth and job creation in mining communities.

“What I want to achieve for Ghana is railway development. I recognize the challenges of having bauxite without the necessary railways, but the presence of railways will make a significant difference. I have plans for three major railway lines: from Accra and Tema to Kumasi, from Kumasi to Takoradi, and from Asawase through Yunahene to Aduade.

“Additionally, we will work on a short 6 km railway from Adum to Akase. While we have not completed our road projects, I will focus on railway development, as that is where true transformation will come from,” he stated.

Dr. Bawumia also mentioned his intention to support small-scale miners by establishing a bank to assist them in purchasing equipment and engaging in responsible mining practices.

“I will also set up a minerals development bank that will help small-scale miners to help you buy equipment and engage in responsible mining. I want you to be millionaires. All the small-scale miners I will make you millionaires. We will licence you and regularise you and supervise you,” he said.
