Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Dome Kwabenya, has expressed strong confidence in securing the seat by the close of polls.
She attributed her optimism to the positive feedback from constituents, indicating that her campaign is resonating with voters.
Speaking to Channel One News after casting her vote at the Ablorh-Adjei Opposite Welder 3 polling station, Akurugu highlighted her position as the first NDC candidate to contest the Dome Kwabenya seat twice, which she believes could lead to sympathy votes.

“I am optimistic that I will be declared the winner at the end of the day. I have toured the constituencies, shops, mosques, and other areas, and the feedback has been positive. If you follow the political history of Dome Kwabenya, they have never repeated a candidate.”
“This is the first time my political party is repeating a candidate, and we know that sympathy votes count. The grounds are good, my opponent stands no chance, and I believe victory will be mine and President John Dramani Mahama’s.”
She acknowledged some minor challenges at polling stations she visited but described the overall voting process as smooth.
Akurugu further stressed the NDC’s commitment to peace, adding that justice is a prerequisite for lasting harmony.
“We will accept whoever is elected as a presidential or parliamentary candidate. The NDC stands for peace, but before peace, there must be justice,” she stated.
