I’m contesting Agona West to win, not to undermine NPP votes – Cynthia Morrison

Cynthia Mamle Morrison has confidently declared her intention to defy expectations and surprise the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by winning the Agona West Parliamentary seat as an independent candidate.

The current NPP MP decided to run independently after losing the party’s primary election.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Monday, October 28, she stated her determination to win the election outright, regardless of any speculation or tactics aimed at discouraging her campaign.

Morrison contended that while the party believes her candidacy will only serve to split the vote, her ambitions are much greater, and she plans to retain the seat as an independent.

She also addressed the October 28 shooting incident in the constituency, describing it as a calculated attempt to instill fear around her campaign.

She noted that both the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have coexisted peacefully in the area, but her independent bid has sparked new hostility.

“This has never happened in Agona West, and I know it’s because I’m running independently; they want to intimidate me. Both the NPP and NDC have lived here without conflict.

“They believe I’m here to spoil their votes, but they don’t realize I’m here to win.”

In response, Nana Kwame Adjei, Deputy Director of External Affairs for the NPP’s Agona West constituency, dismissed the idea that Cynthia Morrison poses a significant threat to the party’s prospects.

“She is not a threat to us because she came last among five candidates in the primary election, so she can never pose a real threat. She is merely trying to create a problem for Chris Arthur in hopes of drawing some votes to her.”
