Cynthia Morrison, the Member of Parliament for Agona West, has clarified that despite contesting the seat as an independent candidate, she is still officially serving as an MP on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“I am still an MP on the ticket of NPP, thank you,” Morrison stated succinctly during a press conference led by Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on Thursday, November 7.

This clarification came amidst rising political tensions following the adjournment of Parliament by Speaker Alban Bagbin.

The Speaker had called for the adjournment after NPP MPs failed to attend the parliamentary session, leading to a lack of quorum.

Bagbin announced that there were no matters for the House to deliberate on due to the absence of the NPP MPs and the Business Committee’s failure to present an agenda.

During the press briefing, Afenyo-Markin accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of creating disorder in the House by occupying the Majority’s side of the chamber.

He further criticized Speaker Bagbin for allegedly supervising the “chaos” and failing to restore order, describing the situation as detrimental to the country’s democratic process.

In response to the situation, Dr. Ato Forson, the leader of the NDC caucus, expressed concern about the NPP MPs’ absence, explaining that the NDC members had attended a Business Committee meeting, only to find that the NPP MPs were absent once again.

He said his attempts to reach the NPP side to understand their plans had been met with no response.

The ongoing parliamentary disruptions and the NPP’s failure to attend sessions have sparked heated discussions about the party’s commitment to its legislative duties and governance in general.
