The outgoing Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, has issued a warning about an imminent outbreak of diseases in Ghana if the galamsey issue is not urgently addressed.

He also expressed concerns that the country may face food insecurity in the near future due to the impact of illegal mining activities.

During his retirement ceremony, Dr. Tinkorang urged authorities to educate illegal miners about the dangers of their actions to help mitigate the problem.

“We should be very careful with the way things are going. If we are not cautious, obtaining food will become a challenge.

Diseases will proliferate, and everything we have worked hard for may be lost. What they are doing is detrimental, and we will suffer as a nation,” he stated.

Reflecting on his tenure, Dr. Tinkorang recounted dealing with health challenges, including outbreaks of Monkeypox and H1N1 at Kumasi Academy (KUMACA), and how those situations were managed.
