The incumbent Member of Parliament for Suhum, Kwadwo Asante, has announced his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming election.

Asante’s decision follows his defeat in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary, where he lost to Frank Asiedu Bekoe, also known as Protozoa.

Despite his primary loss, many NPP supporters in the constituency urged him to run independently.

In response, senior party figures, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, tried to persuade him against this move.

Nonetheless, on Sunday, September 1, Asante officially declared his independent candidacy, ending months of speculation.

Addressing a large crowd of supporters after a health walk at the Suhum Amponsah Market, he emphasized that he was heeding the call of his constituents to continue his development efforts in the area.
