Independence square to close for Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has announced the temporary closure of Independence Square and its surrounding areas in Accra ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.

This closure is part of the government’s efforts to ensure a seamless and secure transition for Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

According to a statement from Mark Okraku Mantey, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the closure will commence at midnight on December 31, 2024, and will last until January 8, 2025. During this time, National Security will secure the area to facilitate event arrangements and ensure the safety of all involved.

The Ministry has advised the public and tourists to take note of the closure and comply with the directive.
