The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno has deployed additional security personnel and armoured vehicles to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following renewed violent attacks in the area.

In a statement issued by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters in Dambai on Thursday, March 26, the Police said the IGP ordered the deployment of two armoured vehicles alongside officers from the National Police Operations unit on the night of Wednesday to strengthen security.

The move, according to the statement, has helped restore calm in the Nkwanta South Municipality, with the situation currently under control.

However, five bodies have been recovered in the aftermath of the attacks. The victims, comprising three males and two females, were found at two separate locations by a joint team of personnel from the Police, Military, Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Investigations have since commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Police have urged residents of Nkwanta and nearby communities to remain calm and support security agencies with relevant information to aid ongoing investigations.

The statement signed by Deputy Superintendent John Nchor also cautioned against the spread of misinformation and any actions that could further inflame tensions in the area.
