Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), has criticized Parliament’s plan to establish its own television station as a misplaced priority and a poor use of financial resources.

He suggested that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) already has the necessary infrastructure and personnel to manage a dedicated parliamentary channel if given proper funding.
Boadu-Ayeboafoh argued that instead of creating a new broadcasting entity and recruiting additional staff, it would be more effective to invest in GBC to expand its services to underserved regions.
He noted that the cost of setting up a new Parliament TV station would far exceed the investment needed to improve GBC’s coverage.
He made these comments during the inauguration of the new GBC board on August 13, 2024, and urged the new board to leverage their expertise to enhance GBC’s capabilities.
The new board, chaired by Samuel Kojo Intsiaba, will focus on improving GBC’s services, including introducing solar energy, upgrading equipment, and transitioning to digital media.
The Director-General of GBC assured that the corporation will maintain professionalism and balanced coverage during Election 2024.
