The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has identified internal divisions as the key factor behind the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The NPP’s attempt to “break the eight” was unsuccessful, resulting in a loss of the presidency and a significant reduction in parliamentary seats.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on December 12, Ahiagbah highlighted unresolved issues within the party as a major contributor to the loss.
While acknowledging that voter dissatisfaction with the government’s performance played a role, he emphasized that internal conflicts had a more significant impact on the party’s unity and campaign effectiveness.
“The problem we are having now is because there are some internal issues. As you know, democracies live for these kinds of divisions to be formed in political parties. It is because there are internal elections that result in difficult situations, reconciliations, building back and all of that.
“Those situations exist and once you are in power, some of these issues fester and create rifts that are difficult to fix. And we acknowledge some of those things.
