Ibrahim Danlad, a 21-year-old goalkeeper, has parted ways with Asante Kotoko after an eight-year stint.

Danlad, who previously captained the team, found it difficult to leave but believes it’s essential to seek new challenges and continue his growth as a player.

His departure comes after a disappointing season, which led to the release of 18 players.

“It has not been an easy decision because I’ve been at Kotoko since my childhood,” he told 3Sports.

“But as a player, you need to try new challenges. I think this was the right time to leave.”

Ibrahim Danlad joined Asante Kotoko in 2016 as a promising teenager and went on to enjoy a trophy-laden career with the club.

Although he initially faced challenges breaking into the first team, leading to loan stints with Berekum Chelsea and King Faisal, he persevered and eventually established himself as the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

During his tenure, he played a crucial role in the club’s success under various coaches, cementing his position as a key player for the Ghana Premier League record holders.

Ibrahim Danlad’s outstanding performances earned him widespread recognition, leading to call-ups to all of Ghana’s national teams, from the U17 to the Black Stars. He also demonstrated his leadership skills by captaining most of these teams.

However, the past two seasons were challenging for the young goalkeeper, as he struggled to regain the trust of his coaches, who favored Frederick Asare.

With the new season approaching, many are eagerly anticipating Danlad’s next move, given his impressive contributions to both local and international football.

His departure from Kotoko marks the end of an era, but also signals the beginning of a new chapter in his promising career, filled with possibilities and opportunities for growth.
