Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, has emerged victorious in the Weija-Gbawe constituency in the 2024 general elections.

Shaib secured 32,608 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival, Felix Odartey Lamptey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who garnered 30,460 votes.

Other candidates in the race included Eric Kwaku Ofori of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), who received 142 votes, Saviour Gbedze of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), who earned 95 votes, and George Fynn Obeng of the All People’s Congress (APC), with 75 votes.

Shaib’s victory strengthens the NPP’s hold on the Weija-Gbawe constituency, further solidifying the party’s representation in Parliament.

In a closely watched race in Awutu Senya East, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor of the NDC has successfully unseated the incumbent MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson of the NPP, marking a significant victory for the NDC in the region.

Her win is seen as a significant achievement for the NDC, as the Awutu Senya East constituency has been a highly contested seat in recent elections.

Naa Koryoo’s campaign focused on addressing pressing local issues, resonating with voters and ultimately leading to her success.

This result is part of broader gains made by the NDC in the 2024 general elections, further solidifying their position in Parliament.

“It has been a hard-fought win for me. Kasoa is now free and will see development under my watch,” Naa Koryoo Okunnor said.

There was a huge crowd at the forecourt of the Central East Regional Police Command where party supporters of the NDC had gathered waiting for the final declaration of the result.
