The Sekondi High Court, presided over by His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh, has postponed the hearing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s application to overturn the injunction on Joana Gyan Cudjoe, its Amenfi Central Parliamentary candidate.

The case, which also seeks to dismiss her disqualification, has been adjourned to Monday, November 11, 2024.
This decision follows a plea by Edudzie Tamakloe, one of the lead counsels representing Joana Gyan Cudjoe, who argued that any further delay in addressing the substantive disqualification case would prevent her from participating in the upcoming December 7th parliamentary election.
Tamakloe emphasized that the ongoing uncertainty was putting Cudjoe at risk of being disenfranchised and excluded from the political race.
His Lordship Gyan-Kontoh agreed with Tamakloe’s plea, acknowledging the urgency of the matter, but urged both parties to consider an out-of-court settlement before the scheduled date.
He expressed hope that a resolution could be reached, allowing the case to be resolved amicably.
Supporters of Joana Gyan Cudjoe, who had gathered in the courtroom to show their backing, also voiced their concern about the timeline.
They expressed their frustration at the delays and called for a swift conclusion to the case to allow their candidate to contest the election.
“We need the injunction to be lifted so that the Electoral Commission can permit us to participate in the election. Our goal is to be actively involved in the electoral process and not just stand by.
With the election just one month away, we are very anxious for the situation to be resolved quickly,” said one of the supporters, highlighting the urgency felt by Cudjoe’s camp.
The court’s decision to adjourn the case has placed further pressure on the Electoral Commission and other relevant authorities to address the issue before the December election.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe, who is contesting the Amenfi Central seat, continues to face challenges with her candidacy, but her supporters remain hopeful that the legal hurdles will be overcome in time for her to run.
